Women's Tennis Blanks Boise State, 7-0

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team opened Mountain West conference play in dominant fashion as the Aztecs shut down Boise State, 7-0. Tuesday afternoon saw a singles action preceded by the claiming of the doubles point. With the victory, SDSU raises its record to 7-9.
Doubles play kicked off competition at Aztec Tennis Center with Laura Antonaña Iriarte and Isabelle Hoorn foreshadowing the day's score with an 8-0 dismissal of Morgan Basil and Sammie Watson on the first court. In second doubles, Kristin Buth and Kennedy Davis clinched the first of seven points for SDSU as the duo downed Anissa Bryant-Swift and Teal Vosburgh, 8-3. In the first slot, Dora Somoracz and Hailey Johnson came up short to Sandy Vo and Megan La Lone, 8-6.
With a 1-0 lead, Davis notched her second victory of the day and added to the Aztecs' advantage as she handled Basil in fourth singles, 6-3, 6-3. On court No. 2, Buth brought San Diego State within one point of taking the decision as she took care of Vosburgh, 6-1, 6-3. In the fifth position, Somoracz claimed the match for the Aztecs as she downed La Lone, 6-4, 6-1. Tami Nguyen posted another victory for the Scarlett and Black over Bryant-Swift in third singles, 6-4, 6-4. The 35th-nationally ranked singles player, Antonaña Iriarte, fell behind early in the first position but was able to keep the momentum going as she defeated Vo in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1. In sixth singles, Hoorn completed the point sweep for San Diego State as she battled and defeated Watson, 6-7 (8-6), 7-6 (4), 10-4.
Next up, the Aztecs will continue league play as they hit the road to take on No. 74 Fresno State on March 28.
