Aztec Women's Tennis Defeats New Mexico, 4-3

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team picked up a Mountain West Conference victory over New Mexico, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at the Aztec Tennis Center. With the win, the Aztecs improve to 12-4 on the season, while the Lobos fall to 5-11.
The Scarlet and Black came out strong against New Mexico with Esther Cadua and Emma Cioffi defeating Mazkenzie White and Victoria Tessmar in third doubles, 8-3. In second doubles, the Ellison sisters claimed the doubles point for San Diego State with Roxanne and Sierra downing Ashley Bonner and Anya Villanueva-Forte, 8-2. In first doubles, New Mexico's Ola Abou-Zekry and Emma Hayman avoided the Aztecs doubles sweep, barely edging Holly Bagshaw and Kathryn Kitts, 8-6.
In singles action, Roxanne Ellison recorded her second victory of the day by downing Tessmar in fourth singles, 6-1, 6-1. In second singles, Emma Coiffi was outpaced by White, 6-3, 6-4. In fifth singles action, Milana Yusupov picked up a win for the Aztecs, defeating Villanueva-Forte, 6-2, 6-4. Sierra Ellison would finish the Ellison Saturday sweep, downing Bonner, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2. Holly Bagshaw was outpaced in first singles by Abou-Zekry, 7-6 (10), 6-1. Esther Cadua was unable to claim a second victory on the day, falling to Hayman, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
San Diego State will wrap up this weekend's Mountain West Conference play Sunday afternoon against UNLV. The Aztecs and the Rebels will meet up at 10 a.m. PT at the Aztec Tennis Center.
