FRESNO, Calif. - The San Diego State women's tennis team dropped its road match to No. 74 Fresno State, 6-1, on Friday afternoon at Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center in Fresno, Calif.

The day began with doubles action, as Fresno State won the first two matches to claim the point. SDSU's No. 1 team of sophomore Dora Somoracz (Budapest, Hungary) and junior Hailey Johnson (Fallbrook, Calif.) fell to Sophie Watts and Anneka Watts, 8-2, while the Aztecs' No. 2 duo of junior Kristin Buth (Kaiserslautern, Germany) and freshman Kennedy Davis (San Jose, Calif.) came up short against Aishwarya Agrawal and Sofya Malysheva, 8-4.

The Aztecs' No. 3 unit of senior Laura Antonaña Iriarte (San Sebastian, Spain) and sophomore Isabelle Hoorn (Soest, Netherlands) trailed FSU's Tanya Murtagh and Anne Susdorf, 6-4, once play was suspended when the Bulldogs earned the doubles point.

San Diego State (7-10, 1-1 MW) quickly knotted the dual-match score at 1-1 in singles action, as Davis topped Malysheva, 6-1, 6-3, on the No. 4 court, but Fresno State (9-8, 2-0 MW) regained the lead for good when Agrawal topped sophomore Tami Nguyen (Muntinlupa City, Philippines), 6-2, 7-5.

No. 35-ranked Antonaña-Iriarte had her four-match winning streak snapped in No. 1 singles play, losing a three-set battle to Sophie Watts, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3, before Hoorn was knocked off by Susdorf, 7-6 (2), 6-4, for Fresno State's fourth point to seal the dual-match victory.

With the outcome already decided, Somoracz suffered a tough three-set loss to Anneka Watts, 1-6, 7-5, 6-2, while Buth lost a hard-fought three-set match to Rana Sherif Ahmed, 7-5, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (5).

The Aztecs return to action on Friday, April 4, when they play host to Mountain West foe Nevada beginning at 11 a.m. PT at Aztec Tennis Center.
