Women's Tennis Rallies to Top USD, 4-3

SAN DIEGO - The No. 56 San Diego State Women's Tennis team rallied with four-straight singles victories after losing the doubles point to defeat cross-town foe No. 51 San Diego, 4-3, on the road on Monday.
The Aztecs (11-4) lost the first two doubles matches before SDSU's No. 2 team of senior Julia Wais and sophomore Kristin Buth defeated Stephanie Hoffpauir and Mikayla Morkel-Brink, 8-5. The Aztecs No. 3 unit of senior Alicia Aguilar and freshman Isabelle Hoorn lost to Cara Brown and Marta Stojanovich, 8-1, to begin the match, while the Aztecs No. 1 duo of junior Laura Antonana Iriarte and freshman Michela Casanova lost to Laura Claus and Anna Depenau, 8-1, to clinch the doubles point for USD.
Aguilar began the comeback for SDSU by earning a singles decision over Hoffpauir, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 2 slot, and Antonana Iriarte followed with a victory against Depanau, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3. Freshman Tami Nguyen defeated Morkel-Brink, 6-3, 6-4, in No. 5 singles to put SDSU one point away from clinching the match, and Casanova finished it off with a win over Cara Brown, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 6 slot.
The Aztecs return to the court on Friday against UNLV, starting at noon PT at Aztec Tennis Center.
