W. Tennis Sweeps New Mexico For Second MW Win

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team swept the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday at Aztec Tennis Center, 7-0. The 55th-ranked Aztecs did not give up one set on the day and notched a definitive conference win. With the victory, SDSU moves up to 13-4 overall and 2-0 in league play.
In a bit of foreshadowing, San Diego State swept doubles action to take an early lead. Alicia Aguilar and Isabelle Hoorn began the wave of wins by downing Kristin Eggleston and Nikolina Grbac in third doubles, 8-1. In second doubles, Julia Wais and Kristin Buth clinched the point by defeating Sarah Mahboob Khan and Michaela Oldani, 8-5. On court No. 1, Laura Antonana Iriarte and Michela Casanova completed the doubles sweep by dismissing Michaela Bezdickova and Laura Richardson, 8-5.
The Aztecs' success continued into singles play as Antonana Iriarte made quick work of Eggleston in third singles, 6-1, 6-1. Buth downed Mahboob Khan on court No. 4, 6-0, 6-3, just as Casanova was finishing off Oldani on court No. 6, 6-2, 6-2. In second singles, Aguilar topped Grbac, 6-0, 6-2. Freshman Tami Nguyen picked up a win on court No. 5, defeating Richardson, 6-1, 7-6 (0). Finalizing the match sweep, Wais took the win over Bezdickova in first singles, 6-3, 6-4.
The Aztecs get back in action tomorrow for their third and final MW match in as many days as they take on Boise State at 10 am.
