WT Completes Weekend MW Sweep; Downs BSU 6-1

SAN DIEGO - The 55th-ranked Aztec women's tennis team completed its perfect weekend on Sunday as it handled Boise State, 6-1, at Aztec Tennis Center. San Diego State claimed the doubles point and dropped only one match in its third match in as many days. With the victory, SDSU moves up to 14-4 overall and 3-0 in league play.
The Broncos were first to get on the board, taking first doubles with Marlena and Manuela Pietzcuh defeating Laura Antonana Iriarte and Michela Casanova, 8-3. Second and third doubles would finish at the same time and gave the Aztecs the doubles point. On court No. 2, Julia Wais and Kristin Buth topped Sandy Vo and Morgan Basil, 8-5. On court No. 3, Alicia Aguilar and Isabelle Hoorn downed Megan LaLone and Teal Vosburgh, 8-4.
In singles play, Casanova notched her first win of the day by dismissing Sammie Watson in sixth singles, 6-3, 6-2. In second singles Vo would pick up Boise State's only point by defeating Aguilar, 6-3, 6-2. On court No. 4, Buth took the match from Basil, 6-1, 7-5. With the score at 3-1 in SDSU's favor, Vosburgh attempted to save the match but could not finish despite taking Antonana Iriarte to three sets on court No. 3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. In first singles, Wais would fight for her point, topping Marlena Pietzuch, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Finishing off the Broncos, Tami Nguyen defeated LaLone on court No. 5, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.
The Aztecs will continue conference play on April 13 when they travel to Las Vegas to face Fresno State at 10 am.
