USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The San Diego State women's tennis team clinched its first outright Mountain West Conference title since 2003 on Saturday with a satisfying 6-1 victory over Air Force at the USAF Academy. The match was originally scheduled to be played in Fort Collins, Colo., however, weather-related issues prompted the change of venue.

With the win, the 41st-ranked Aztecs claimed their 13th straight dual match, closing out their regular-season schedule with a 20-4 overall record and a perfect 8-0 mark in league play, while the Falcons drop to 13-9 on the year and 2-5 in MW action.

SDSU got off on the right foot in doubles competition, as the duo Alicia Aguilar and Isabelle Hoorn dispatched the Air Force's Tiffany Tran and Marcelli Magday by an 8-5 count in the No. 3 slot. However, the Aztec tandem of Michaela Casanova and Laura Antonana Iriarte was not as fortunate, falling to the Falcon pairing of Hannah Dake and Melissa Cecil in the No. 1 position. Nevertheless, SDSU was able to secure the point when the combination of Julia Wais and Kristin Buth outlasted Christina Molina and Natasha Rizvi by a 9-7 tally in the No. 2 spot.

The Aztecs kept the momentum with three straight victories in singles play and five of six overall to secure the victory. After Wais registered a 6-4, 6-2 triumph in the No. 1 position, Aguilar soon followed with a nearly identical 6-4, 6-0 conquest of Tran at No. 2. Antonana Iriarte experienced a tougher battle on the No. 3 court, but still managed to rally past Dake in a thriller, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(4), to capture her 13th consecutive win and give the Scarlet and Black the MW crown.

The final three matches were also extended affairs, with Rizvi notching Air Force's lone point of the afternoon in a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 defeat of Buth at No. 4. However, Tami Nguyen and Dora Somoracz prevented further damage for the visitors with victories in the No 5 and 6 positions, respectively. In pro-set finishes, Nguyen outlasted Mary Meyers 2-6, 6-1, 10-3, while Somoracz regrouped from an early deficit as well to dispose of Anatasia Hueffner, 1-6, 6-4, 10-6.

SDSU will return to the USAF Academy next week as the No. 1 seed for the Mountain West Championships, slated for April 25-28.
