SDSU Women's Tennis Completes Day Two of Fall Classic

SAN DIEGO - Junior Holly Bagshaw remained undefeated in Flight 1 singles action as the San Diego State women's tennis team concluded the second day of the SDSU Fall Classic at the Aztec Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
Bagshaw defeated Helene Lindstrand of USD, 6-2, 6-3, in her semifinal match. Bagshaw will face Pepperdine's Anamika Bhargava in the final on Sunday.
In other Flight 1 singles action, freshman Julia Trunk defeated Kyla Iwinski of Denver in a compass draw, 6-3, 6-1, while senior Eliska Krausova was not as fortunate, as she dropped a compass draw match, 6-0, 6-4, to Denver's Julia Bauregger.
Juniors Milana Yusupov and Esther Cadua both advanced to the consolation draw finals to be held tomorrow. Yusupov defeated Rebecca Lin of Rice, 6-1, 6-2, and Cadua dispatched Pepperdine's Tania Rice, 6-3, 6-4.
Over in Flight 2 singles, freshman Olivia Colman fell in the semifinals, 6-4, 7-6(4) to Tiffany Lee of Rice. Classmate Darby McGill also dropped her only match of the day in the consolation semifinals to Kaja Smole of Denver. Sophomore Ozge Atalay picked up her first singles win of the tournament with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Marigrace Marshall of Pepperdine in a compass draw.
In doubles action, Yusupov and Bagshaw fell in the semifinals to Bhargava/ Rice of Pepperdine, 8-1, and will return to action on Sunday in a compass draw.
Cadua and Trunk saw similar results as they dropped their quarterfinal match, but the SDSU duo rebounded with an 8-1 triumph over Perl and Faulkner of USD in a compass draw. The third Aztec doubles team of Atalay and Colman started the day off with an 8-3 victory over Lindstrand and Teeling of USD in the consolation quarterfinals, but ended up falling to Rice's Mitchell and Marshall in the semifinals.
The SDSU Fall Classic will conclude with doubles and singles action tomorrow beginning at 9 a.m. at the Aztec Tennis Center.
