Silvia Tornier Advances to Singles and Doubles Finals at SDSU Fall Classic

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior Silvia Tornier advanced to the singles and doubles finals in the top flight at the 2002 SDSU Fall Classic on Saturday afternoon at the SDSU Courts. The three-day tournament, which features players from five schools -- Illinois, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, San Diego and San Diego State -- concludes on Sunday.
Tornier, who swept both top-flight titles last season, defeated Eldina Fazic of Illinois in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, to advance to the final against the Illini's Tiffany Eklov. In doubles play, Tornier teamed with sophomore Indra Erichsen to post an 8-3 win over Patricia Graf and Lindsey Hedberg in an all Aztec semifinal. The Aztec duo will face a team from Pepperdine in the Flight A final.
In addition to playing for two titles on Sunday, the Aztecs will have three singles and one doubles team competing for third place. In Flight B Singles, two Aztec players will meet as senior Katja Karrento and junior Katalina Romero will play for third place in the eight-player flight. Both players lost semifinal matches on Saturday. Aztec newcomer Julie Litrich, will play for third place in the Flight D Singles.
In top flight doubles action, Graf and Hedberg, which fell to Tornier and Erichsen on Saturday, will play for third place tomorrow.
