SDSU Women's Tennis Wraps Up Play at Wilson/ITA West Regionals

The San Diego State women's tennis team wrapped up the weekend on Sunday, recording five singles victories during consolation play at the Wilson/ITA West Regional Championships at Barnes Tennis Center.
Senior Yuki Hagiwara (Nishinomiya City, Japan) was one of three Aztecs to defeat an opponent from the University of Hawai'i when she disposed of Florence Wasko in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4. Freshman Ozge Atalay (Istanbul, Turkey) found similar success against Jacqui Williams, 6-3, 6-4, while fellow classmate Kathryn Kitts (Yardley, Pa.) completed the sweep of the Rainbow Wahine with a 6-0, 6-0 whitewash of Julia Sandborn.
Rounding out Sunday's action was junior Eliska Krausova (Prague, Czech Republic) and sophomore Esther Cadua (San Diego, Calif.), who each posted identical 6-3, 6-4 scores in their respective matches. Krausova upended UC Santa Barbara's Tova Hausman, while Cadua was triumphant over Helene Lindstrand of cross-town rival San Diego.
The 2006 Wilson/ITA West Regional Championships conclude this week with 13th-seeded Yasmin Schnack of UCLA facing USC's No. 12 Sarah Fansler in the finals of the main singles draw on Monday at 10 a.m. The consolation singles final will feature USC's Katja Decker-Sadowski and Sabita Maharaj-Walkup of Hawai'i, also slated for a Monday 10 a.m. start. Tuesday's doubles final is an all-Women of Troy affair and will take place on the campus of USC, as the unseeded tandem of Anca Anastasiu and Julie Smekodub squares off against the No. 8 duo of Sarah Fansler and Dianne Matias.
Wilson/ITA West Regional Championships
