Hauerlandova Reaches Consolation Final of 2005 Wilson/ITA West Region Championships
Oct. 23, 2005
San Diego State women's tennis senior Dita Hauerlandova won both her quarter- and semifinal round matches to advance to Monday's consolation title match of the 2005 Wilson/ITA West Region Championships hosted by San Diego State University and the University of San Diego. Hauerlandova will face Arizona's Camelia Todorova for the back draw crown beginning at 10 a.m. at Barnes Tennis Center.
Hauerlandova began the day by defeating UNLV's Claire Smith in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5, in a quarterfinal match that was originally scheduled for Saturday. The contest was postponed until today because yesterday's match would have been Hauerlandova's fourth of the day.
After getting through the quarterfinals, the senior from the Czech Republic recorded a 7-5, 1-6, 6-2 win over Arizona's Tina Razloznik to advance to Monday's consolation final against Todorova, a walk over winner over Eva Dickes of Pepperdine.
In doubles action, Hauerlandova and her partner, Sisse Nielsen, had their three-match winning streak come to a halt in the semifinals when they dropped an 8-3 decision to the eventual champions, Silvia Kosakowski and Merve Asimgil of Pepperdine.
Final day action of the 2005 Wilson/ITA West Region Championships begins tomorrow at 9 a.m. with the main draw singles final featuring No. 1 seed Amanda Fink of USC and second-seeded Elena Gantcheva of UNLV at Barnes Tennis Center.
