SDSU Women's Tennis Opens Season Saturday

SDSU opens the campaign against UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton this Saturday.

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis squad opens its 2012 dual-match season on Saturday at Aztec Tennis Center. SDSU is set to take on UC Riverside at 9 a.m. PT before returning to the courts to face Cal State Fullerton at 4 p.m. PT.

The Aztecs, who are ranked No. 52 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) preseason poll, return six of their seven letterwinners from a season ago when they finished with a 15-10 record and a 6-2 mark in the Mountain West.

SDSU is ringing in the new year with one of its most experienced groups in recent memory highlighted by its three seniors (Emma Cioffi, Roxanne Ellison, Sierra Ellison) and a pair of juniors in Alicia Aguilar and Julia Wais.

San Diego State is set to play host to two schools it is a combined 32-0 against. The Aztecs are 7-0 all-time vs. the Highlanders and 25-0 vs. the Titans. A season ago, the Aztecs defeated both schools by identical 6-1 margins.

Following Saturday's doubleheader, SDSU will travel to Malibu, Calif., to take on Pepperdine. The Jan. 25 match is set for a 1:30 p.m. PT start.
