Women's Tennis set to open regular season
Jan. 19, 2018
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team is set to kick off its regular season Sunday, Jan. 21, against UC Riverside. The Aztecs host the Highlanders in a noon match at the Aztec Tennis Center.
A regular fixture on SDSU's spring slate, the Highlanders missed last year's matchup against the Aztecs due to rainy conditions in San Diego. SDSU topped UCR, 6-1, in their last meeting in the spring of 2016.
The SDSU squad had a strong fall 2017 slate in three tournaments, posting a number of wins in both doubles and singles action. The Aztecs hosted the three-day Fall Classic I where they posted seven doubles wins and 11 singles victories over the course of the weekend.
The team also competed in the 2017 ITA Southwest Regional at the Barnes Tennis Center, where three Aztec pairs advanced to the doubles round of 32 despite bad weather throughout the tournament. SDSU wrapped its fall slate in November with Fall Classic II with an impressive eight doubles victories and 17 total singles wins.
Following this weekend's match, the Aztecs welcome UCSD Saturday, Jan. 27, and UC Irvine Sunday, Jan. 28. Both matches are set for noon.
