SAN DIEGO - The 48th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team is gearing up to play two matches this week. First up, SDSU will take on No. 38 UC Irvine at Aztec Tennis Center on Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. The Aztecs will then hit the road and square up against Pepperdine, which comes in this week's rankings tied at No. 44, in Malibu, Calif., on Feb. 8 at 1 p.m.

The Anteaters are coming off of a 6-1 loss to Pepperdine last Saturday which brought their overall record to 1-3. SDSU has the upper hand over the Anteaters in the two school's all-time meetings, 31-9.

Last season, the Scarlet and Black were victorious against the 44th-ranked Waves, 5-2, after coming up short in doubles play but bouncing back in singles action to eventually take down two of Pepperdine's nationally-ranked singles players. This season the Malibu, Calif., based team boasts five nationally-ranked singles players in No. 19 Lorraine Guillermo, No. 79 Matea Cutura, No. 93 Ale Granillo, No. 112 Michaela Capannolo and No. 117 Yuki Chiang. The Waves have a season record of 1-1 and have yet to pick up a win at home this year. Pepperdine owns the advantage in the all-time series record against the Aztecs, 21-26.

Last weekend, SDSU added another win to their record after dominating UC Davis at Aztec Tennis Center on Saturday, 5-2. The Aztecs took an early lead in doubles play and went on to secure the victory with four wins in singles. The win over the weekend brings San Diego State to 3-0 at home and an overall mark of 3-1 on the season.
