Women's Tennis closes regular season at SJSU

April 20, 2017

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women’s tennis team is set for its regular season finale against San Jose State on Saturday, April 22, with first serve set for noon at the Almaden Valley Athletic Club in San Jose, Calif.

The Spartans (10-7, 1-2) enter this weekend’s dual following a pair of 4-3 losses to Nevada and Cal State Fullerton. In addition to its winning record, SJSU boasts a 95th-ranked singles player, junior Sybille Gauvain. This weekend’s match is also the last of SJSU’s regular season play before the conference tournament.

SDSU’s Northern California road trip comes on the heels of a seven-match skid. The Aztecs played their final home match last Thursday against the Fresno State Bulldogs, who topped SDSU 6-1. The team’s three seniors—Kennedy Davis, Olivia Larsson and Taylor Lederman—were all honored prior to the match for Senior Day, and Larsson celebrated her final home match with a singles victory over Fresno State’s Olivia Noble, 7-6 (2), 7-5. Davis also claimed a win in doubles with partner Mia Smith, but the Bulldogs claimed the doubles point after winning matches one and three.

Following this weekend’s conference dual, the Aztecs travel to Las Vegas, Nev., for the Mountain West Championships on Thursday, April 27.

The San Diego State women’s tennis team saw another close conference match slip away by one point on Sunday. SDSU dropped a 4-3 decision to San Jose State at Aztec Tennis Center. For the second time this weekend, the Aztecs saw their singles rally fall short and result in a close loss.
