Women's Tennis Seniors Nab All-Mountain West Honors
April 25, 2013
USAF Academy, Colo. - The San Diego State women's tennis team saw both seniors named to the all-Mountain West team on Thursday. The league announced the end of the year awards at its postseason banquet. Seniors Julia Wais and Alicia Aguilar both earned singles honors.
Wais, the only player to compete in the top singles position for the past two seasons, finished league play with a 6-2 mark and an overall record of 15-9. The senior was named the Mountain West Player of the Week twice this season to bring her career total weekly award count to five. The all-MW honor is the third of her career.
Aguilar is a first-time all-conference performer and the recognition comes after a stellar San Diego State career. The Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, native finished league action with a four-match win streak. The senior was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Year after her debut on The Mesa and caps her time at SDSU with the all-MW distinction.
Both four-year letterwinners helped the Aztecs to a perfect 8-0 conference record, 20 win season, the top seed at the league championships, 13-match win streak to finish the regular season and the first outright Mountain West title for SDSU in 10 years. San Diego State is set to face ninth-seeded Colorado State on Friday at 10 am MT in its first outing in the conference championships.
