SAN DIEGO - San Diego State's Silvia Tornier won the top-flight singles championship and paired-up with Lindsey Hedberg to claim the top-flight doubles championship at the 2001 San Diego State Fall Classic on Sunday at SDSU Courts.

The tournament featured four flights of singles and two flights of doubles and featured athletes from Alabama, Baylor, Fresno State, Pepperdine, UC Irvine as well as city schools San Diego and UC San Diego.

In a bracket that featured two ranked players, Tornier defeated teammate Katja Karrento 6-3, 6-0 to win the Flight A championship. Classic top-seed and 25th-ranked Katja Kovac of Baylor took third place in the flight.

Other singles flight champions included Chantel Wiggins of Fresno State, Weyli Chang of Alabama and Anna Bentzer of UC irvine.

In Flight A doubles play, Tornier and Hedberg, ranked 29th nationally and tournament top-seed, defeated fellow Aztecs Katey Becker and Karrento 8-5.
