NAMPA, Idaho - Kristen Brown won the pole vault to lead the San Diego State track and field Friday on the second day of the Mountain West Indoor Championships in Nampa, Idaho.

Brown helped the Aztecs maintain their overall lead after two days with a total of 56 points. New Mexico is second with 48 points, while Colorado State (46.33), Air Force (29.33) and Wyoming (28) round out the top five.

Brown captured the pole vault, beating out 16 other entrants with a mark of 13 feet, 6 ½ inches (4.13 meters). The win continued SDSU's dominance in the event as it has now claimed 16 titles at the Mountain West Championships out of 27 possible tries (indoor and outdoor).

Kelsy Hintz, who has two MW pole vault titles in her own right (2011 outdoor, 2012 indoor), tied for second at this year's event at 13-02.50 (4.03m). Karen Snapper came in eighth at 11-10.75 (3.63m).

Jasmine Burrell, meanwhile, broke her own school record in the weight throw en route to finishing third with a toss of 64-01.50 (19.54m). Ellie Fanaika (53-01.00 (16.18m)) and Mikayla Howden (53-01.00 (16.18m)) ended up 13th and 14th, respectively.

In the long jump, San Diego State got much-needed points from Nicole Oudenaarden (18-11.75 (5.78m)) and Alex Evans (18-10.00 (5.74m)), as they finished fifth and sixth. Shanieka Thomas came in 19th in 16-03.75 (4.97m).

Carrington Mahr tied her personal-best mark in the high jump, taking seventh in 5-06.00 (1.68m), while Karsen Sper tied for 13th at 5-01.00 (1.55m).

The Aztecs also qualified five athletes into tomorrow's finals in two events on the track. Leading the way was Brown in the 60-meter hurdles, who finished first of 16 with a blistering time of 8.28 seconds. The time was the second fastest in school history. Allison Reaser (second, 8.49) and Evans (seventh, 8.70) also moved onto tomorrow's final.

Thomas won the 400 prelims in 55.83 seconds over the 20 other competitors with the eighth-fastest time in SDSU indoor history. Deyna Roberson came in third in 55.99 to also advance to Saturday's final.
