SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's track and field team kicked off the 38th annual Sea Ray Relays with an event title and three other top-five finishes Friday at the Tom Black Track in Knoxville, Tenn.

The Aztecs' 4x200 relay logged the second-fastest time in school history, finishing in 1:33.31, and trailing only the SDSU record of 1:32.99 set a year ago. SDSU beat out 16 other schools Friday, including runner-up Speed Elite Track Club, which crossed the line in 1:33.67.

SDSU junior Marie Nilsson (Kil, Sweden) continued to make her mark in the Aztec distance rankings, posting the school's best time since 1982 in the 3,000 meters of 9:39.01. Nilsson's time earned her a fifth place at Friday's meet, but puts her fourth in the SDSU all-time top 10.

Aztec pole vaulters Shayla Balentine (Los Osos, Calif.) and Erin Asay (San Diego, Calif.) accounted for the team's other two, top-five finishes, taking third and fourth overall with an NCAA provisional qualifying height of 12-07.50.

Other highlights on the day included Jamillah Titus' (American Canyon, Calif.) team season best in the 800 meters (2:10.96 - 11th) and Heather Heron's (Yakima, Wash.) pair of NCAA regional qualifying times in the hurdle events.

SDSU concludes action at the Sea Ray Relays Saturday, beginning at 12:40 a.m. EDT.
