SDSU's Shanon Meyer Finishes Seventh In The Heptathlon At The Mt. SAC Relays

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State freshman Shanon Meyer (Hesperia, Calif.) finished seventh in the Mt. SAC Relays' Heptathlon Friday with an NCAA provisional qualifying point total of 5,198. Meyer's teammate, senior Leslie Miller (Humble, Texas), placed ninth overall (4,993 pts.) in the two-day competition held at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif.
Meyer and Miller came into the final three events of the heptathlon in ninth and 10th place, respectively. Meyer started the day by jumping 18-9.50 in the long jump, followed by a season-best throw of 121-04.00 in the javelin. Meyer then finished the competition with the third-fastest 800-meter time in the field of 2:19.34 for a personal best 5,198 points.
Miller, meanwhile, just missed the NCAA provisional qualifying standard of 5,000 by seven points. The senior jumped 17-6.75 in the long jump, threw the javelin 127-07.00 and completed the 800 meters in 2:26.33 for 4,993 total points.
At Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif., Aztec distance runners Alicia Stewart (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Christal Cuadra (Honolulu, Hawaii) placed 30th and 31st in the 5,000 meters late Thursday afternoon. Stewart completed the race in 18:41.40, while Cuadra logged her best time of the season in 18:59.16.
San Diego State continues action at the Mt. SAC Relays Friday with freshman Nicole Carmier (Elk Grove, Calif.) and sophomore Alisha Lasswell (Kilbride, Ont.) competing in the high jump and junior Candace Hill (San Diego, Calif.) entered in the women's discus, starting at 5:30 p.m. The Aztecs have also entered four runners in both the 400 and 800 and three in the 1,500-meter race on Friday.
