SDSU's Polischuk Fourth After Day One Of The MWC Heptathlon

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Janine Polischuk (Regina, Saskatchewan) is in fourth place after day one of the heptathlon Wednesday at the 2005 Mountain West Conference Track & Field Championships in Fort Collins, Colo. The sophomore has 2,936 points at Colorado State's Jack Christensen Track.
Polischuk posted a season-best time in the 100-hurdles (14.51 seconds). She also competed in the high jump (5 feet, 1 1/4 inches), shot put (33-4) and the 200-meter dash (25.97).
Polischuk was fourth overall after four events (3,000 points) at last year's meet, but came back with a first place in the long jump (18-8), a fourth in the javelin (116-03) and a third in the 800 (2:16.25) to win the event and take home MWC Freshman of the Year honors. Her 5,210 points rank sixth in school history.
UNLV's Christine Spence leads the event with 3,231 points, while Colorado State's Katie Lloyd (3,055) and Cristina Gourdin (2,993) are second and third, respectively.
The heptathlon concludes Thursday, with the final three events - the long jump, javelin and the 800 - beginning at 12:30 p.m. MDT.
