San Diego State freshman Allison Reaser leads the heptathlon after a rainy and chilly first day of the 2011 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Fort Collins, Colo.

After four events (of seven), Reaser, who won the pentathlon at the MWC indoor championships in late February, leads the nine remaining competitors with 3,198 points, 147 more than second-place Brianna LeRoy (3,051) of Utah.

"I was proud of the way Allison competed, considering the sub-40 degree weather with both rain and hail at various times," head coach Shelia Burrell said. "She showed a lot of poise by running close to personal bests in two events. It's a good sign for what she is capable of as we prepare for the NCAA Championships."

Reaser opened the day by winning the 100-meter hurdles in 13.87 seconds. The time was just 0.04 off her personal-best time of 13.83, set on April 7 at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational.

Next up for Reaser was the high jump, where she cleared 5 feet, 1 ¼ inches. The mark tied two others for fifth in the event and was her third-best performance of the outdoor season.

In the shot put, Reaser took fourth of the remaining nine competitors with a toss of 35-06, her third-best throw of the season.

Reaser ended the first day of the heptathlon in the 200, where she ran a time of 24.54. The time was more than a second faster than runner-up Talyah Polee (25.80) of UNLV and her second-fastest time of the year (24.49 on April 7 at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz.).

The final day of the heptathlon begins tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. MT.
