NEW ORLEANS -
San Diego State is ranked 22nd in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Preseason National Team Computer Rankings, which were released Wednesday.
The National Team Computer Rankings by the USTFCCCA are compiled by a mathematical formula based on national descending order lists. The purpose and methodology of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots in the national team race. Rankings points do not equate with NCAA Championships team points.
The Aztecs are just behind No. 20 Alabama and No. 21 Cincinnati in the preseason poll, and ahead of No. 23 Penn State, No. 24 Villanova and No. 25 New Mexico. Oregon, which has won eight of the past nine NCAA indoor titles, is No. 1 in the preseason poll. Arkansas (No. 2), Georgia (No. 3), USC (No. 4) and Texas (No. 5) round out the top 5.
Last indoor season, SDSU finished in a four-way tie for 21st at the NCAA Championship meet. San Diego State went onto win the 2017 MW Outdoor Championships in May and eventually finished tied for 32nd at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The Aztecs kick off their indoor portion of the schedule this Saturday at the UW Preview. The pole vault and the 60-meter hurdles are scheduled to start at 9 a.m. PT, while the 4x400 ends the day for SDSU at 5:35 p.m. PT.
