The San Diego State track and field team begins its 2013 season Saturday at the Cherry and Silver Invitational at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M.

The Aztecs, who are ranked 20th in the nation in the USTFCCCA indoor preseason poll, will be sending 13 to the meet, including six newcomers.

Four athletes - Brittany Bozeman, Allison Reaser and Karsen Sper - are slated to compete in the 60-meter hurdles, long jump and shot put, while Alex Evans is entered in the 60 hurdles, long jump and triple jump.

Shanieka Thomas (long jump, triple jump) and Maderia Toatley (60, 400) are also competing in multiple events for SDSU.

Kristen Brown (60 hurdles), LaQuisha Jackson (800) and Deyna Roberson (400) will be on the track, while Jasmine Burrell (shot put), Kelsy Hintz (pole vault), Karen Snapper (pole vault) and Holly Waseloff (pole vault) will be competing in field events.

San Diego State returns two athletes who competed in the NCAA Indoor Championships last year. Thomas finished seventh in the triple jump and later was the runner-up in the event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Hintz, meanwhile, was 15th at last year's indoor meet and ninth in the outdoor meet.

The Aztecs also return two others who earned All-American accolades at last year's NCAA Outdoor Championships. Reaser, a two-time defending pentathlon and heptathlon Mountain West champion, finished sixth at last year's NCAA outdoor meet en route to earning first-team USTFCCCA honors. Evans garnered second-team USTFCCCA accolades in the triple jump with a 14th-place showing at last year's championships.

New Mexico is hosting the meet, which includes No. 9 California and No. 13 Stanford, and DII powers Adams State (No. 3) and Grand Canyon (No. 4). Other Division I teams at the meet include Brigham Young, Northern Colorado, Portland State, New Mexico State, Southern Utah, Tulane, UC Irvine, USC, Utah State and UTEP.

Live stats will be available at liverunningresults.com with complete results coming late Saturday night on GoAztecs.com.
