The San Diego State track and field team heads to Houston this weekend for the Howie Ryan Invitational & Multi's. The two-day meet will begin on Friday and will be hosted by the University of Houston.

The Aztecs, who are still outside the top 25 of the USTFCCCA indoor computer rankings, but did move up four spots to No. 29, will be sending 15 athletes to the meet.

Shanieka Thomas, the defending NCAA outdoor triple jump champion and one of 10 on the preseason watch list for The Bowerman Trophy (top collegian), will make her 2014 debut on Saturday in the triple jump. Thomas was runner-up in the event at the NCAA indoor championships a year ago and has won the last four MW triple jump titles (2012-13 outdoor, 2012-13 indoor).

Unlike past years, where SDSU just competes in the pentathlon at the MW Championships, the team has three athletes entered in the five-event competition. Allison Reaser (No. 1 all-time at SDSU), Nicole Oudenaarden (No. 2) and Karsen Sper (No. 7) will each look to post solid scores in the pentathlon, which begins at noon CT Friday.

Reaser is also slated to run the 60-meter hurdles and a leg of the 4x400-meter relay on Saturday, while Oudenaarden will compete in the shot put and a leg of the 4x400 relay and Sper in the 60 hurdles.

Four other athletes are entered in three events, including Janice George in the 200, 400 and 4x400, Madison Gipson in the 60, 200 and 60 hurdles, Maderia Toatley in the 200, 400 and the 400 leg in the distance medley relay (DMR) and Meritzer Williams in the 60, 200 and 4x400.

Kristen Brown (60 hurdles, pole vault), the reigning MW Co-Athlete of the Week Jasmine Burrell (shot put, weight throw) and Dynasty Gammage (mile, 1,200 leg of DMR) are also slated for multiple events.

Chelsea Kruthers (800 leg of DMR) and Rachel Roesgen (1,600 leg of DMR) will make their collegiate indoor debut, while pole vault regulars Karen Snapper and Holly Waseloff will also compete in the meet.

Joining San Diego State and the host Cougars at the meet will be Alcorn State, Grambling, Houston Baptist, Lamar, North Texas, Northwestern State, Prairie View, Rice, Sam Houston State, South Florida, Southern, Texas A&M-CC, Texas Lutheran, Texas State, Texas Wesleyan, UANL and UTSA, along with many professional, club and unattached competitors.

The meet kicks off for the Aztecs at 10 a.m. CT Friday with the weight throw before closing with the DMR at 7:30 p.m. CT. On Saturday, SDSU's competition starts at 9 a.m. CT with the shot put, while the two-day meet closes at 4:50 p.m. CT with the 4x400 relay.

Live results will be available at http://flashresultstexas.com/2014/uhhryan14/ throughout the meet. Friday's final results and the complete results from the meet will be posted on GoAztecs.com.
