Five Aztecs Named to All-MW Indoor T&F Team
March 3, 2014
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Five San Diego State student-athletes were named to the 2014 all-Mountain West Indoor Track and Field team, the league announced today. To be named to the all-conference team, an athlete must finish in the top three of an individual event or relay event.
Brown won her second consecutive 60-meter hurdles title on Saturday, clocking a time of 8.31 seconds. The 8.31 was tied for the second-fastest time in MW Championships history (finals only). On Friday, Brown clocked an 8.28 in the prelims, which tied her personal best and was the second-fastest time in program history.
Oudenaarden picked up her all-conference selection after taking third in the grueling pentathlon on Thursday. The only underclassman to finish among the top five, Oudenaarden won the shot put and was second in the long jump en route to totaling 3,918 points.
Reaser, meanwhile, came in second in the pentathlon with a school-record 4,145 points. Reaser, who had won all six multi-event titles (2011-13 indoor pentathlon, 2011-13 outdoor heptathlon) at the MW Championships coming into the weekend, easily broke her record of 3,971, which was set last year at the MW indoor meet. The 4,145 points are the eighth most in the country this year, thanks to individual wins in the 60 hurdles and long jump.
Thomas claimed her third consecutive indoor triple jump title (2012-14) and fifth straight triple jump championship (also 2012-13 outdoor) overall with a leap of 44 feet, 5 ¼ inches (13.54 meters) to break an indoor championship record. Thomas, the defending NCAA outdoor triple jump champion, a runner-up at the 2013 NCAA indoor championships and one of 10 on the preseason watch list for The Bowerman Trophy (top collegian), also owns the top mark in the country this year at 45-03.00 (13.79m).
Waseloff, who won the pole vault at the 2012 MW outdoor championships, earned all-conference accolades again this year with a third-place finish and a mark of 13-02.25 (4.02m). Waseloff actually tied with three others at the 13-02.25, but was awarded third due to a tiebreaker with the fewest misses at previous heights throughout the competition. The 13-02.25 was a collegiate-best mark (indoor or outdoor) and was the sixth-best mark in indoor program history.
SDSU will await a list of qualifiers for the NCAA Indoor Championships, which will be announced on Tuesday (March 4) by 7 p.m. PT on NCAA.org. The NCAA Championships take place on March 14-15 in Albuquerque, N.M.
