May 15, 2017
SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State track and field landed 12 student-athletes on the All-Mountain West team, the league office announced Monday. The selections were awarded to the top-three finishers in each event at the conference meet, which SDSU won this past weekend.
Five Aztecs earned multiple all-MW accolades. Capturing all-conference honors in three events were senior Micha Auzenne (100, 100 hurdles, 4x100 relay) and junior Ashley Henderson (100, 200, 4x100 relay). Sophomore Lisa-Anne Barrow (4x400 relay, long jump), junior Simone Glenn (400, 4x100 relay) and freshman Andrenette Knight (400 hurdles, 4x400 relay) were also all-MW picks in multiple events.
Additionally, sophomore Je'Neal Ainsworth (triple jump), sophomore Marissa Berry (pole vault), junior Bonnie Draxler (pole vault), junior Melody Harris (javelin throw), senior Tyra Lea (4x400 relay), junior Monique McPherson (4x400 relay) and junior Rochene Smith (4x100 relay) secured all-MW nods.
Auzenne, Draxler and Glenn take home all-MW picks for the third-straight year. Collecting the second all-conference nods of their careers were Ainsworth, Berry, Henderson and Lea. Barrow, Harris, Knight, McPherson and Smith are first-time honorees.
The 12 all-MW selections helped the Scarlet and Black win its third outdoor conference crown in five years and its fourth overall.
Eighth-year head coach Shelia Burrell earned her third Mountain West Coach of the Year honor (outdoor, 2014; indoor and outdoor, 2013) following the conference meet. After winning the 100- and 200-meter dashes while anchoring SDSU's conference-best 4x100-meter relay team, junior Ashley Henderson was named the Women's Outstanding Performer of the Meet. She is the first Mountain West student-athlete to win three consecutive Outstanding Performer of the Meet awards (outdoor, 2016; indoor, 2017; outdoor, 2017).
Henderson had a hand in two school records, running to a program-best time in the 100 meters (11.05), and anchored the 4x100-meter relay team to gold and a school record (42.99). She also raced to a personal best and the second fastest mark in program history with her win in the 200 meters (22.54).
Auzenne snagged a trio of medals as a member of the 4x100-relay team, winning her third-straight 100-meter hurdles conference crown with the program's third-fastest mark (12.97), and snatching bronze in the 100-meter dash (11.46) to sit fifth in the program's all-time ranks.
San Diego State will next compete at the NCAA West Regional Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas, from May 25-27.
