EUGENE, Ore. - Former San Diego State track and field athlete Erin Asay completed competition at the U.S. Olympic Trials at Hayward Field on Sunday evening. Asay, a native of San Diego, was one of 12 athletes to compete in the finals of the pole vault.

To start the competition, the bar was put at 13 feet, 9.25 inches (4.20m) and 10 of the 12 athletes, including Asay, decided to pass. After the remaining two athletes cleared the first bar, the height increased to 14-1.25 (4.30m). Unfortunately for Asay, she was unable to clear the bar on all three attempts putting her out of the running for a U.S. roster spot.

Jennifer Stuczynski won the event after she vaulted 16-1.75 to break her own American record established in May. Coming in second place was April Steiner Bennett (15-01.00), followed by Erica Bartolina (14-11.00) in third.
