March 7, 2018
SAN DIEGO – San Diego State head coach Deitre Collins-Parker has announced the hiring of Kara Barkdoll as volleyball operations assistant.
“I am very excited with the addition of Kara to our staff,” Collins-Parker said. “She brings a great deal of enthusiasm to the position and will serve as a tremendous role model for our student-athletes. Kara came to me highly recommended by coaching colleagues, and I couldn’t have asked for a better fit for our program.”
Prior to her arrival on Montezuma Mesa, Barkdoll spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Concordia University Irvine, where she served as the team’s video technician while assisting with practice plans, drills, scouting and budget management.
In addition, Barkdoll gained valuable experience at the club level, including a two-year stint with the 951 Elite Volleyball Club in Wildomar, Calif., where she doubled as head coach of the 12-and-under age group while assisting with the 18-and-under squad. She was also involved as an assistant coach with the Laguna Beach Volleyball Club.
A native of Portland, Ore., Barkdoll played collegiately as a middle hitter and opposite at Cal State San Marcos, where she earned four varsity letters and served as team captain during her senior campaign in 2014. She completed her best season statistically as a junior in 2013, posting 179 kills (1.50/set), which ranked third on the squad, while adding 42 digs and 37 blocks.
A member of CSUSM’s inaugural volleyball team in 2011, Barkdoll helped the Cougars to four consecutive A.I.I. conference championships and four NAIA tournament appearances, including a pool play berth in 2012.
Barkdoll received her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from CSUSM in December of 2015. She is currently pursuing a master’s in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia Irvine.
