Nicole Akporiaye Selected Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player Of The Week

San Diego State's freshman middle blocker Nicole Akporiaye was named the Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player-of-the-Week today. Akporiaye was instrumental in the Aztecs' two five-game come-from-behind wins over Northern Arizona and UNLV this past week. With the wins, SDSU improved to 10-12 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
The native of Tucson, Ariz., collected nine blocks in each outing and reached double figures in kills in both matches. She registered 12 kills versus Northern Arizona and a career-and team-high 18 kills against UNLV when she led the Aztecs with a .343 hitting percentage (18-6-35).
For the week, Akporiaye hit .333 with 30 kills and only 10 errors in 60 attempts. She averaged three kills and 1.13 blocks per game, totaling 30 kills and 18 blocks. She also added four digs and one assist.
Akporiaye is a product of Canyon Del Oro High in Tucson, and she currently ranks second on the squad with 80 total blocks (14BS, 66BA). She also ranks third in the kills category with 159 total and an average of 2.15 kills per game.
Akporiaye is the first freshman to earn player-of-the-week honors in volleyball in the Mountain West Conference this season.
