Dec. 3, 2011

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State Head coach Deitre Collins-Parker has announced that Michelle Waber, a transfer for the University of Hawai'i, will join the Aztec volleyball team for the 2012 season. The 6-3 outside hitter from Wildomar, Calif., redshirted for the Rainbows this past season after playing during her freshman campaign of 2010.

In her first season at Hawai'i, Waber was named to the Western Athletic Conference all-freshman team after appearing in all 32 of her team's matches. She recorded a season-high 12 kills against UCLA for a Rainbow team that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. She also posted a double-figure kill effort with 10 against Brigham Young.

Waber is a 2010 graduate of Elsinore High School in Wildomar, Calif., where she was a three-year volleyball letterwinner and ranked No. 81 on the prepvolleyball.com Senior Aces list. She led her team to thee league championships and a CIF Southern Section title in 2009 when she earned first-team all-CIF and Valley Player of the Year honors.

Waber joins an SDSU team that went 18-10 this past season including a 10-4 mark in Mountain West play. The Aztecs second-place conference finish was its best since 2002 while it recorded its most victories since the 2003 season.
