SDSU Water Polo Picked First in Preseason GCC Poll

The Aztecs have been picked to finish first in the preseason GCC poll.

SAN DIEGO - The ninth-ranked San Diego State water polo team has been picked to win the inaugural Golden Coast Conference championship in a poll of the league's head coaches, it was announced Thursday afternoon.

The Aztecs received 36 points and six first-place votes to sit atop the GCC preseason rankings. No. 11 Loyola Marymount was the runner-up in the poll with 31 points and one first-place tally, followed by 20th-ranked Pacific (26 points), Cal Baptist (19), Santa Clara (18), Azusa Pacific (10) and Fresno Pacific (7).

This is the first season of competition for the Golden Coast Conference, with the champion set to be crowned at Loyola Marymount's Burns Aquatics Center in late April at the league tournament (April 24-26).

The Aztecs will officially get their season underway on Saturday, Feb. 1, when they travel to Riverside, Calif., for the Lancer Mini where they will face Concordia (noon PT) and CSU Bakersfield (4:30 p.m. PT).
