SAN DIEGO - Ninth-ranked San Diego State officially opens its 20th season of varsity competition this weekend with three games at two different venues. The Aztecs will face Concordia and CSU Bakersfield at noon and 4:30 p.m. PT, respectively, at the Lancer Mini in Riverside on Saturday before traveling to No. 12 Long Beach State on Sunday for a noon game.

SDSU is looking to start the campaign with a win for the 12th time in the last 13 years against a Concordia team it has not faced since 2011. In the only meeting between the schools, the then-11th-ranked Aztecs defeated Concordia, 13-5, at the UCSB Winter Invitational.

After its game vs. Concordia, San Diego State will hop into the pool to face CSU Bakersfield for a second straight season. A year ago, the Aztecs beat the Roadrunners, 10-6, at the Cal Baptist Invitational and enter this season's game having never lost to CSUB in 12 tries.

On Sunday, SDSU will face a familiar foe in former MPSF and Big West member Long Beach State. The schools were both in the MPSF from 1998-2008, and in the Big West in 2013, before the Aztecs moved to the Golden Coast Conference, which is in its first year.

San Diego State will look to exact a bit of revenge against a 49ers squad that ended its season at the Big West Championship. Tenth-ranked LBSU upset the eighth-ranked Aztecs, 8-6, in the third-place game after SDSU had defeated the 49ers twice earlier in the year and 10 straight times overall. In the history of the series, San Diego State has won 23 of the 35 get-togethers with Long Beach State.

The Aztecs, who are the preseason favorites to win the Golden Coast, return 2013 All-American Taelor Moreno and Anique Hermann, who are the returning leading scorers, and starting goalkeeper Rachel Mitchell.

After this weekend's games, San Diego State will play host to Hartwick in its home opener on Thursday, Feb. 6, at 3 p.m. PT at Aztec Aquaplex.
