Feb. 7, 2014
SAN DIEGO - San Diego State junior Anique Hermann was named the Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week on Wednesday. The honor is the first of her career and the first for SDSU while a member of the GCC.
The Torrey Pines High graduate scored a team-high six goals on 10 shot attempts to help SDSU win all three games last weekend. Hermann also added a team-high eight assists and 12 ejections drawn, and five steals, which was the second most on the team. More impressive was the fact that SDSU scored seven goals on her 12 drawn ejections and Hermann had a hand in 21 of the team's 37 goals (goals, assists, ejections drawn).
In the season-opening 18-7 win over Concordia, Hermann scored on all four attempts and had two assists. SDSU also scored on four of her five drawn ejections. Later that day against CSU Bakersfield, the driver added a goal and a team-high three assists to propel the Aztecs to a 14-6 victory, and a perfect 2-0 record at the Lancer Mini in Riverside, Calif.
The next day, then No. 9 San Diego State traveled to No. 12 Long Beach State and earned a hard-fought 5-4 win. In a winning effort, Hermann scored a goal and assisted on three goals to guide SDSU to its 11th win in 12 tries against the 49ers.
The now-eighth-ranked Aztecs are coming off a 10-5 victory over No. 19 Hartwick on Thursday and will head north to La Jolla for the UCSD Triton Invitational, which begins Saturday. SDSU will face No. 20 Santa Clara at 10:40 a.m. PT at Canyonview Pool.
