Anique Hermann Named MPSF Newcomer of the Week
April 17, 2012
SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's water polo freshman Anique Hermann was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Newcomer of the Week, the league announced late Monday night. The award is the first of her career.
A native of San Diego, Hermann helped the Aztecs secure their seventh-straight 20-win campaign last week after SDSU defeated Chapman and Redlands in Orange, Calif.
Against Chapman, the driver tallied a game-high five assists, two steals and drew one exclusion in the Aztecs' 22-2 victory. A couple of hours later, Hermann returned to the pool and scored on both of her shot attempts, and added three assists and a pair of steals against Redlands.
For the week, the Torrey Pines High School graduate totaled two goals, a team-high eight assists and four steals, while committing zero turnovers.
Hermann is just the second Aztec in league history to earn MPSF Newcomer of the Week accolades. Amber Pezzolla was the school's first-ever winner almost two years ago to the day back on April 19, 2010.
San Diego State closes out the regular season on Friday when it travels to UC San Diego for the 11th annual Harper Cup game. First sprint in La Jolla is set for 6 p.m. PT.
