Cross Country Claims Team And Individual Titles

In its final outing before the Mountain West Championships, the San Diego State cross country team clocked multiple personal bests on its way to claiming both the team and individual titles at the Titan Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. The first-place team finish marked the second of the season for the Aztecs.
Senior Marianne Hogan once again led all SDSU athletes on her way to earning the individual crown. Hogan ran the 5,000-yard course in 17 minutes, 35.3 seconds, outperforming 125 other runners. The Bedford, Quebec, native shattered her personal record previously set at the Mountain West Championships on Feb. 25, 2011, in Albuquerque, N.M. (17:55.31). The win marks Hogan's second individual title of the season and fourth of her career.
Fellow senior, Josefine Koskinen, also crushed her previous personal best 5K time (19:27.0), set on Oct. 1, 2011, at the UNLV Invite. Koskinen posted an impressive time of 18:19.6, to come in 10th place.
Freshman Jessica McCall crossed the finish line in the 17th position on her way to recording her best 5K time of the season (18:30.7). Laura Vazquez (21st,18:34.0) and Hannah Sawatzki (36th, 18:58.9) also clocked their best 5K speeds of their inaugural SDSU campaigns.
San Diego State had multiple runners come in under the 20-minute mark on Friday. Freshman Chelsea Kruthers (46th, 19:07.1) was followed by sophomore Katy Smith (19:24.8), freshmen Rachel Roesgen (57th, 19:28.5) and Megan Geyer (66th, 19:50.4). Also competing for the Aztecs were freshman Lily Mayko (68th, 20:02.2), sophomore Melissa Wendorf (72nd, 20:12.5), juniors Amanda Okun (80th, 20:28.9), Amy Reaser (81st, 20:29.0), sophomore Megan Hughes (93rd, 21:02.3) and freshman Kimmy Kaloroumakis (102nd, 21:59.0).
SDSU tallied 52 points to take the team title, defeating 10 other teams including UCLA (2nd, 70 points) and UC Irvine (3rd, 73 points).
San Diego State will return to racing form on Oct. 26, at the Mountain West Championships in Las Vegas.
